Sep. 23rd, 2007 @ 11:27 pm So Winnipeggers, I ask of you...
Current Mood: worriedworried
Why don't people like socials? What drives you away from them? What are good things about them that you like? What would entice you to come?

I'm getting married, and I'm scared of my social failing, infact I teamed up with another pair of friends who are getting married to help bolster attendance. (we're each getting married 2 months apart so the timing works out)

Where: Cowboys at CanadInns Windsor Park 2nd level VIP
When: Friday Sept 28th 8pm to 2am
Address: Lagimodiere & Elizabeth
Price: $10 entry fee (which apparently is standard for socials)

Are the prizes good?: Hell YEAH! Door prize is a freaking iPod Nano. We have over 20 prizes from stuff to bring home to the kiddies to stuff for the geeks at heart. (Anyone like to be able to play Bioshock? We have stuff that can run the damn game)

Yeah, we'll be selling tickets at the "door". Also we have tickets set up at All Your Base Computers - located at: 1111B St Marys Rd Winnipeg - Across from the 7-11 2 blocks north of Bishop Grandin.

Also we're hoping the DJ will be kind and let us play cds since it's request night and they won't play country the whole night.

I am from Thunder Bay, Ontario and our Socials (they are actually called "Shag's" there) are only $2 for a ticket. There are always tons of prizes to win. The last shag i went to had 4 big prizes, one was a helicopter ride and a stay at a B&B, another was a running package which included new running shoes, clothes, etc... The other big prizes were just as nice. The rest of the prizes were smaller prizes (ie. gift certificates), at least 30 and everything was donated. I think if the tickets were cheaper here more people would come, I know if someone was trying to sell me a ticket for someones social that i didn't know I wouldn't spend $10 on the ticket. The one's in Thunder Bay were always packed, lots of drinking and dancing and tons of fun. The one I went to here in Winnipeg was kind of lame. There wasn't very many people and no one was dancing.

From everyone we've asked apparently $10 is the average price for tickets. We have lots of good prizes, I've been trying to get people to pass on the word some idea of what we have. But the only social I remember going to was as dead as the one you described, no one drank or danced, very little food or interesting prizes.
